The 3.5% FBA fuel surcharge is a multiplier on the fulfillment cell, not a cut of the list price. On the calculator’s default $29.99 Home & Kitchen Large Standard 1.5 lb SKU that is $0.19 on a $5.42 mid-band cell — not $1.05.
Type the same inputs into the
Amazon FBA Calculator. The
fulfillment row already applies fuelSurchargeMultiplier from
the same file. The $5.42 → $5.61 step is the whole
mechanism.
Multiply the cell, not the sticker
Amazon’s 2026-04-17 Seller Central post is explicit: the surcharge is calculated on fulfillment fees. Our dataset stores that as one multiplier on every size-tier cell. Referral (15% Home & Kitchen, minimum $0.30) and storage ($0.78/cu ft off-peak) stay on their own lines.
The common spreadsheet error is to take 3.5% of GMV. That silently prices fuel as if it were a second referral fee. On $29.99 it invents $1.05 against a real $0.19 on the calculator default — $0.86 of phantom cost per unit.
SKU A: calculator defaults
SKU A is the tool’s shipped default: $29.99 Home & Kitchen, Large Standard, 1.5 lb, $8.00 COGS, $1.00 inbound, 0.25 cu ft × one off-peak month ($0.78/cu ft → $0.20). Referral is 15% ($4.50). The mid-band cell is $5.42; after fuel the fulfillment row is $5.61.
SKU A · Home & Kitchen · $29.99 · 1.5 lb Large Standard · $8.00 COGS · $1.00 inbound
| Line | Amount | What the dataset does |
|---|---|---|
| Referral (15%) | $4.50 | Percent of list price; fuel does not touch it |
| FBA cell (mid band) | $5.42 | largeStandard.upTo1_5lb.mid |
| Fuel (3.5% of cell) | $0.19 | $5.42 × 1.035 − cell |
| Fulfillment billed | $5.61 | Calculator fulfillment row |
| Storage + inbound + COGS | $9.20 | $0.20 + $1.00 + $8.00 |
| Profit / unit | $10.69 | 35.6% margin · 100 units → $1068.68 / mo before ads |
Cells last verified 2026-10-01. Reproduce SKU A by leaving the calculator defaults. The 3.5% of $29.99 mistake is $1.05 — $0.86 above the real fuel line.
At 100 units / month the fuel line is $18.97. That is the number to put in a Q4 buy plan, not $104.96 from a GMV spreadsheet. If you reprice around $10 or $50, the Low-Price FBA band article is the jump; fuel then scales the new cell.
Same sticker, three size tiers
Amazon’s announcement quotes a catalog-average per-unit impact. This page does not store that average. The surcharge dollars follow the cell you actually sit on. Hold $29.99 and Home & Kitchen fixed, then change only size and weight.
Same $29.99 · Home & Kitchen · $8.00 COGS · $1.00 inbound · 0.25 cu ft
| Size / weight | Base FBA | Fuel | Billed FBA | Profit / unit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small Standard · 0.25 lb (4 oz) | $3.42 | $0.12 | $3.54 | $12.76 | 42.5% |
| Large Standard · 1.5 lb | $5.42 | $0.19 | $5.61 | $10.69 | 35.6% |
| Large Bulky · 2 lb | $9.73 | $0.34 | $10.07 | $6.23 | 20.8% |
Large Bulky billed fulfillment is ($9.35 + $0.38 × extra lb beyond the first) × 1.035. Fuel on SKU C is $0.34 — $34.05 at 100 units / month. Heavier cells, not higher stickers, drive the surcharge.
If the unit is Small Standard, the fuel line stays in the teens of cents on this price ($0.12) and is rarely the reason a SKU dies. If the unit is Large Bulky, $0.34 stacks on an already-fat pick-pack cell — the decision is still size-tier and inbound, not a 3.5% GMV tax. Peak storage is a different card ($2.40/cu ft); see Amazon Q4 2026 Prep for that calendar.
Price bands move the cell, then fuel follows
The 2026 fulfillment table is already price-banded. The same Large Standard 1.5 lb unit uses $4.60 under $10, $5.42 from $10–$50, and $5.68 above $50. Fuel is 3.5% of whichever column you land in.
Large Standard · 1.5 lb · fuel only (Home & Kitchen referral omitted)
| Price band | Base FBA | Fuel | Billed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under $10 | $4.60 | $0.16 | $4.76 |
| $10 – $50 | $5.42 | $0.19 | $5.61 |
| Over $50 | $5.68 | $0.20 | $5.88 |
Crossing $10 or $50 is a band decision first. Fuel then scales the new cell. Do not add 3.5% of the extra sticker dollars.
If A then X / if B then Y
If you have been booking fuel as 3.5% of GMV, rebuild the SKU on the fulfillment cell. On this $29.99 Large Standard default you have been overstating the line by $0.86 per unit ($85.99 / month at 100 units). The calculator already does the multiply.
If your catalog is Small Standard and the cell is in the $2.49– $3.68 4 oz band, treat fuel as a rounding line and spend the modeling time on the $10 / $50 fulfillment step and category referral. If the catalog is Large Bulky or Extra-Large, model fuel on the fat cell before you buy another inbound — $0.34 per unit at 2 lb is the surcharge, not $1.05.
How to run the number this week
- Open the Amazon FBA Calculator. Leave the defaults to match SKU A, or set your real size, weight, and category. Write down the fulfillment row — that figure already includes fuel.
- Split the row: billed ÷ 1.035 is the published cell; the remainder is fuel. On SKU A that is $5.42 and $0.19. Compare that remainder to 3.5% of the list price. If the two disagree, the spreadsheet is on the wrong base.
- Roll the remainder × monthly units. SKU A at 100 units is $18.97. Put that next to peak storage on the Q4 inbound plan, not inside referral.

amazon.ts(https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/external/G201411300). Amazon called the add-on temporary; settlement is the source of truth. Helium 10* is the research/repricing suite already linked from the calculator; Sellerboard* is the per-SKU settlement view. Neither changes the fee card.
Platform pick for the same SKU is a different question — use the Marketplace Fee Comparison Calculator after the FBA cell is honest.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Amazon FBA fuel surcharge 3.5% of the selling price?
No. In this dataset the 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge multiplies the FBA fulfillment cell only — not the list price, not referral, not storage. On the calculator default $29.99 Home & Kitchen Large Standard 1.5 lb SKU that is $0.19 on a $5.42 mid-band cell ($5.61 billed). Applying 3.5% to the sticker instead invents $1.05 and overstates the line by $0.86. The Amazon FBA Calculator’s fulfillment row is already labeled as including fuel.
How do I reproduce the $29.99 fuel table in the calculator?
Open the Amazon FBA Calculator. Leave the defaults: $29.99, $8.00 cost, Home & Kitchen, Large Standard, 1.5 lb, $1.00 inbound, January–September storage, 0.25 cu ft, 1 month, 100 monthly units. Net profit / unit should match $10.69; the fulfillment row should match $5.61 ($5.42 × 1.035). Switch size to Small Standard and weight to 0.25 lb for $3.54; switch to Large Bulky and 2 lb for $10.07.
Does the fuel surcharge apply to Low-Price FBA and every size tier?
Yes in this dataset. 3.5% multiplies every size/weight/price-band fulfillment cell, including the under-$10 column. The same Large Standard 1.5 lb unit is $4.60 / $5.42 / $5.68 before fuel across the three 2026 price bands, so the surcharge dollars move with the cell ($0.16 / $0.19 / $0.20). Apparel and dangerous-goods cards are not in this file — verify those ASINs in Seller Central’s Revenue Calculator.
Does fuel apply to Amazon referral fees or monthly storage?
Not in this model. Referral stays 15% of the selling price for Home & Kitchen (minimum $0.30). Storage stays $0.78 per cubic foot off-peak and is a separate Q4 card. Only the pick-pack-ship fulfillment line is multiplied. Confirm the live settlement split in Seller Central — Amazon can rename or sunset a temporary add-on without changing the published size-tier table.
Does this calculator include Multi-Channel Fulfillment or Buy with Prime fuel?
No. The dataset stores one FBA multiplier (1.035, effective 2026-04-17). Amazon’s Seller Central announcement also names later MCF / Buy with Prime start dates; those programs are not in amazon.ts. If you ship MCF or Buy with Prime, verify the surcharge on that program’s fee preview — do not reuse the FBA cell math.
