A 3 lb Large Standard unit is not a heavier version of the same FBA fee. On the 2026 $10–$50 card the cell itself moves: $4.60 at 1.00 lb, $5.82 at 2.00 lb, $6.67 at 3.00 lb — then the 3.5% fuel surcharge multiplies whichever cell you landed on.
Type those three weights into the Amazon FBA Calculator on a $29.99 Home & Kitchen listing (the tool’s defaults except the weight field). The fulfillment row is the only line that should move. The $10 / $50 price bands are a different toggle — that walkthrough is Amazon FBA low-price fees.
Three weight cells, one price band
Large Standard is the FBA tier for packaged units up to 18″ × 14″ × 8″ and
20 lb that no longer fit Small Standard. Inside that tier the 2026 US card
still charges by shipping weight — 4 oz steps up to 1 lb, then quarter-pound
steps to 3 lb, then a $0.32/lb adder. Price band is a second axis:
this page stays in the $10–$50 column because $29.99 and $19.99
both sit there. Under $10 and over $50 use the other two numbers in the same
amazon.ts row.
Large Standard · $10–$50 card · base fulfillment (before 3.5% fuel)
| Shipping weight | Base FBA | After fuel | Dataset cell |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.00 lb (16 oz) | $4.60 | $4.76 | upTo16oz.mid |
| 1.50 lb (calculator default) | $5.42 | $5.61 | upTo1_5lb.mid |
| 2.00 lb | $5.82 | $6.02 | upTo2lb.mid |
| 3.00 lb | $6.67 | $6.90 | upTo3lb.mid |
| 4.00 lb | $7.29 | $7.55 | over3lbBase.mid + $0.32 |

The first cliff inside Large Standard is not 2 lb. Crossing 1.00 lb to 1.01 lb leaves the 16 oz cell ($4.60) for the 1.25 lb cell ($5.04) — $0.44 before fuel, $0.46 after on a $29.99 listing. If a boxed kit is 16.1 oz because of a spare insert, that insert is a fee line, not packing fluff.
SKU A: $29.99, calculator defaults, only weight changes
SKU A is the calculator’s default Home & Kitchen listing: $29.99, $8.00 COGS, $1.00 inbound, 0.25 cu ft, one off-peak month of storage ($0.78/cu ft → $0.20). Referral stays 15% ($4.50; the $0.30 minimum is not binding). Storage is held constant so the table isolates the fulfillment jump — a real 3 lb box is often larger than 0.25 cu ft; re-enter your cube in the tool.
SKU A · Home & Kitchen · $29.99 · $8.00 COGS · $1.00 inbound · 0.25 cu ft × $0.78
| Weight | Referral (15%) | FBA + fuel | Storage | Profit / unit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.00 lb | $4.50 | $4.76 | $0.20 | $11.54 | 38.5% · healthy |
| 2.00 lb | $4.50 | $6.02 | $0.20 | $10.27 | 34.3% · healthy |
| 3.00 lb | $4.50 | $6.90 | $0.20 | $9.39 | 31.3% · healthy |
Profit = price − referral − FBA − storage − inbound − COGS. Reproduce the three rows in the calculator with Large Standard + Home & Kitchen + $29.99. The 2 → 3 lb step ($0.88) is smaller than 1 → 2 lb ($1.26).
On this mid-ticket SKU the 3 lb version is still 31.3% · healthy. Weight is a packaging project, not a kill switch: $2.14 per unit is what a 1 lb redesign is worth before you spend it on a new carton. Past 3 lb the adder is linear — 4.00 lb is $7.55 after fuel, $0.64 above the 3 lb cell.
SKU B: $19.99 / $10 COGS — 2 lb already loses
Same Large Standard path, tighter contribution. $19.99 still sits in the $10–$50 fulfillment column, so the FBA cells are identical to SKU A. Referral is 15% of the lower sticker ($3.00). COGS rises to $10.00. The weight jump now crosses zero.
SKU B · Home & Kitchen · $19.99 · $10.00 COGS · same inbound and storage
| Weight | Referral (15%) | FBA + fuel | Profit / unit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.00 lb | $3.00 | $4.76 | $1.04 | 5.2% · thin |
| 2.00 lb | $3.00 | $6.02 | -$0.23 | -1.1% · loss |
| 3.00 lb | $3.00 | $6.90 | -$1.11 | -5.5% · loss |
Same calculator path as SKU A: change price to $19.99 and cost to $10.00, then step the weight. 1 lb is already 5.2% · thin; 2 lb is -1.1% · loss.
If A, a 3 lb inbound on the $29.99 / $8.00 SKU still clears 31.3% — cut weight when the carton project is cheaper than $2.14 per unit. If B, do not send the 2 lb or 3 lb version at $19.99 / $10.00: the 2 lb row is already -$0.23 per unit. Raise the sticker, cut COGS, or drop the SKU. Volume does not fix a negative unit.
If A, redesign the carton / if B, do not inbound
The rule is not “heavier products cost more.” It is two forks on the same Large Standard card — re-run your own price, COGS, and cube in the calculator before you copy the dollars.
- If leftover after 15% referral, COGS, inbound, and storage still clears 25% at 3 lb (SKU A) — inbound is fine. Spend the packaging budget only when a real path to 1.00 lb (or back under the 1.00 lb cell) is cheaper than $2.14 per unit. Do not chase Small Standard unless the box also fits 15″ × 12″ × 0.75″; that size-tier walkthrough is 11 ways to reduce Amazon FBA fees, not this weight-band table.
- If leftover is already thin at 1 lb (SKU B) — stop. The 2 lb cell is $1.26 more fulfillment on the same sticker, and that is enough to flip $1.04 into -$0.23. Re-price or re-source before the first inbound. Peak storage ($2.40/cu ft in Q4 vs $0.78 off-peak) is a separate lever on Amazon Q4 2026 prep.
Comparing the same SKU on another marketplace is the Marketplace Fee Comparison Calculator, not this weight table. The 3.5% fuel line that sits on every cell is already inside the calculator’s fulfillment row.
How to run the number this week
- Open the Amazon FBA Calculator. Set Large Standard, Home & Kitchen (or your real category), your COGS and inbound, and January–September storage unless the unit will sit into Q4.
- Enter the live list price. Set weight to the packed shipping weight Amazon will use (the greater of actual and dimensional). Write down Net profit / unit. Then set weight to the next cell you could actually hit with a carton or insert change — 1.00 lb, 2.00 lb, or 3.00 lb — and write the new profit. On SKU A those three figures are $11.54, $10.27, and $9.39.
- If you change cartons often, watch the live dimensional-weight line, not the factory spec. Helium 10* is the research suite we already link from the calculator; Sellerboard* is the per-SKU settlement view. Neither changes the fee card.

Frequently asked questions
How much more does Amazon FBA charge at 3 lb than at 1 lb?
On the 2026 Large Standard $10–$50 card, the base cell is $4.60 at 1.00 lb (the 12–16 oz row), $5.82 at 2.00 lb, and $6.67 at 3.00 lb. After the 3.5% fuel surcharge those become $4.76, $6.02, and $6.90 — $2.14 more fulfillment from 1 lb to 3 lb on the same selling price. Apparel and dangerous-goods cards are separate. Verify the live cell in Seller Central’s Revenue Calculator.
Does crossing 1.00 lb to 1.01 lb change the FBA fee?
Yes on Large Standard. This dataset bills 1.00 lb on the 16 oz cell ($4.60 mid-band) and anything above 1.00 lb through 1.25 lb on the next cell ($5.04). That is a $0.44 base jump — $0.46 after fuel on a $29.99 listing — for a tenth of an ounce. If the packaged unit still fits Small Standard (≤15″ × 12″ × 0.75″ and ≤1 lb), 1.00 lb uses the small-standard card instead; this page models Large Standard only.
How do I reproduce the 1 lb / 2 lb / 3 lb table in the calculator?
Open the Amazon FBA Calculator. Leave the defaults: $29.99 price, $8.00 cost, Home & Kitchen, Large Standard, $1.00 inbound, January–September storage, 0.25 cu ft, 1 month. Set weight to 1.00, then 2.00, then 3.00. Net profit / unit should match $11.54, $10.27, and $9.39. The 1.5 lb default the tool opens on is $10.69.
What happens above 3 lb on Large Standard?
From 3 lb to 20 lb the card switches to a base plus a per-pound adder: $6.97 + $0.32 per lb above the first 3 lb on the $10–$50 column (under-$10 and over-$50 use the other two columns). A 4.00 lb unit is therefore $7.29 before fuel and $7.55 after — $0.64 more than the 3.00 lb cell on the worked $29.99 SKU. Confirm dimensional weight if the box is light but large; Amazon bills the greater of actual and dimensional weight.
Does the 3.5% fuel surcharge change between 1 lb and 3 lb?
The rate does not. The 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge (effective 2026-04-17) multiplies whichever Large Standard cell you land on. Heavier units pay more dollars of surcharge because the base is higher — $0.23 on the 3 lb cell versus $0.16 on the 1 lb cell in this example — but it is the same multiplier. The calculator’s fulfillment row already includes it.
